Please keep your beloved cats inside during this next week. Halloween is a time of treats and possibly tricks. Unfortunately, your cat may come out on the wrong side of one of these so-called tricks. A cat can be a favorite target of someone looking to cause trouble, especially if you have a black cat. There are even tales of satanic rituals involving cats. Don’t let your cat become a statistic!
Besides the potential for tricks, there may be a lot of extra traffic in your neighborhood at this time of year, including many drivers who are not familiar with your area. They may not see your cat in the road before it is too late.
Trick or treaters often purposely dress up to be scary. Their attire or loudness may scare your cat and cause him or her to act uncharacteristically, like running out in front of a moving car.
You may be thinking that you never let your cats outside, so none of this should be an issue. But, in the chaos of parties and trick-or-treaters, and people coming and going from your house, it would not be hard for your kitty to slip out the door unnoticed. Be sure to confine your cats during parties and trick-or-treat time to keep them safe!
It’s really not wise to let animals roam outside unattended at any time. But, Halloween is a time of year with extra dangers to your pets. Please be a responsible owner and protect them from harm!
