How to Make Your Cat Happy

cat products picture

If you own a cat, you will want to know how to care for your cat. Follow the tips below to make sure you have a happy and healthy cat.

1. Pay attention to your cat’s health. You will want to make sure that your cat has no diseases especially since some of these illnesses can be transmitted to humans. If you notice a change in your cat’s energy levels, that the coat is dull or shedding more than usual, or other symptoms, you will want to get a veterinary examination.

2. Make sure that your cat is groomed properly. Even though cats groom themselves often, they still need some help from humans to keep them in top shape. Brush you cat regularly. This won’t take long if your cat has short hair, but a long-haired cat will require longer and more frequent groomings. Start with a wide-tooth comb, and finish with a fine-tooth comb. Talcum powder can also be used to separate hair strands..

Cats do occasionally need to be bathed even though they generally don’t care for this activity. Cat coats can get dirty, and even have poisonous substances on them that should be washed off. Bathing also helps eliminate ticks and lice.

Use a shampoo that is made for cats. You will need a tub or sink, dry towels, a comb and shampoo. A spray attachment for your faucet is also very helpful since this allows you to get the cat wet without having to immerse him or her. Avoid getting shampoo in the cat’s face, especially in the eyes and ears. After your kitty is clean, dry with a towel, and run a comb through the coat. Use bath time as a time to bond with your cat, and hopefully, your feline will grow to at least tolerate this activity.

You will also need to keep the eyes, teeth and ears clean. The paws also need to be cleaned and the nails trimmed.

3. Feed your cat on the same schedule daily. If you have multiple cats, provide each one with his or her own food bowl.

4. Give your pet lots of love and attention and have daily playtime.

By following these tips, you should have a happy and healthy cat.

Cats naturally love the outdoors. Letting them outside to roam freely can be dangerous. Walking a cat just like you would walk a dog offers several benefits.

The typical house cat is often bored and depressed from being confined to a house. They have few opportunities to engage their senses with the sounds, sights and smells of nature. Being bored can lead to destructive behaviors like scratching your furniture. Walking a cat can give them mental stimulation to help ward off boredom.

Most house cats do not get enough exercise and gain too much weight. This obesity can shorten lifespans and lead to numerous health issues. Providing enough exercise in an indoor environment can be difficult. Taking your cat for a walk is a great way to provide exercise for your kitty an as a bonus, for you.

The busy lives that many people lead may not leave much time to spend with your feline. Going on walks offers a perfect opportunity to bond with your pet by spending time together.

Homemade Cat Food

Homemade Cat Food
Due to recent pet food scares, you may be considering alternatives to store-bought food. Homemade cat food may be an option.

Cats do not tolerate preservatives well which can pose a challenge when creating your own food. You will want to use natural ingredients that are free from additives. Before you begin, ask your veterinarian for advice as your pet’s needs may differ due to weight and medical considerations.

Generally cats need vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates and fat. Because kitties require high amounts of protein, they will need ground chicken, ground turkey, or ground beef to get enough of this nutrient. Occasionally, give them a hard-boiled or scrambled egg. While cats love fish, mercury is a consideration, so you may want to limit tuna or use types that are mercury-free. Dietary supplements such as flaxseed oil, vegetables and very small amounts of salt may also be helpful.

You can find many cat food recipes on the web. Experiment to see which one your feline prefers. You may find that your cat likes homemade cat food recipes better than the store-bought variety!

Cats and Their Use of Scent

Cats and Their Use of Scent
Cats have sebaceous glands in their paws, tail, chin, lips, and forehead. These glands secrete a scent that is left behind when the feline nuzzles you or scratches something. This scent is used for several purposes:

1. To keep other cats from using the same territory for hunting at the same time.

2. To see if another cat has claimed a territory.

3. To find mates.

4. To find their way home.

5. To figure out if another cat is familiar or a stranger.

Now you know why cats will come up to you and immediately start rubbing against you. They want to mark you as their possession!

Cheap Cat Toys You Can Find Around Your Home

Cheap Cat Toys You Can Find Around Your Home
Purchasing toys from your a pet store can be pricey, and after the dollars you spend on it, your cat either tears the toy to shreds in a few hours or turns its nose up altogether!

Why not save your money and create your own cheap cat toys with the following things you are able to find around your own home?

String

I promise all cats love string. As it wriggles on the ground, moving fast and slow, it activates your cats hunting instinct and makes a great plaything.

A good idea is to tie a long piece of string to a stick, so you are able to drag it on the ground and tease your pet while sitting comfortably in a chair.

Paper

Other than the sound of pet food, nothing perks my cats ears up like the sound of paper being rolled into a ball. A ball of paper roughly the size of a ping-pong ball is ideal for your cat to chase around your home. They really love it.

Similar things to use for ball pet toys are rolled up candy wrappers and small balls of aluminum foil.

Rope

One of the most versatile products you can use to create various cat toys and activities.

Its good to wrap around a post to create your very own cat scratch post and can be pinned to pieces of board to make scratching boards that can be mounted on a wall.

Spools

Empty spools of thread can offer hours of rolling and chasing fun for your pet. Peel off the label so your cat will not ingest ink or paper.

These are just a few of the things you can find inside your home to entertain your pet, without having to spend money in pet stores on toys and pet accessories.
