Litter Box Cleaning

Cats are a favorite family pet. What is not so popular with family members is cleaning the litter box.

A minimum of a daily scooping is necessary to keep litter boxes maintained. The litter will need to be completely replaced every week or two, and the box wiped out with cleaning solution so that odors do not have a chance to develop.

Some boxes feature sifting mechanisms where you can shake the litter over a sifter or tilt the box a certain way, and the clumped litter is moved to another part of the box for removal. These styles may make litter scooping a little more tolerable.

For those who really cannot stand the thought of daily scooping, consider a self-cleaning litter box. When the cat is done using the litter box, the litter will automatically be sifted or raked.

The sifting boxes are often round. Once the cat leaves, the dome on top rotates and sifts the litter. The waste litter will be put below the good litter for discarding.

The raking boxes are often rectangular. When the cat is done, the rake pops out and rakes the clumps from the remaining litter.

Take a look at the various styles of litter boxes. You may find one that makes that daily scooping job a thing of the past.
